The story behind Cathbad
At Deirdre's birth Cathbad prophesied that she would bring death and ruin to Ulster; on hearing this, the Ulstermen wanted to kill the child, but Conchobhar instead reared her in seclusion to be his bride — a decision that brought all the foretold disaster to pass.
