The most prominent god of the Tuatha Dé Danann, master of all crafts, who slew his grandfather Balor of the Evil Eye at the Battle of Mag Tuired; founder of the festival of Lughnasadh and (mythological) father of Cú Chulainn.

Master of every art, he led the Tuatha Dé to victory over the Fomorians; the festival of Lughnasa (1 August) was held in his honour.
